Let me get this straight: your fireteam was ordered to provide suppressing fire toward a presumably fortified bunker... while you were IN THE OPEN?! Am I understanding this correctly? Though I may not been infantry, I was certainly trained well enough to know that just about everything your LT ordered was incompetent... unless he was deliberately manufacturing a touch situation. We do that in training all the time to see how our Marines will act, which choices they will make out of an impossible situation. And it exposes the flaws and the strengths of each team member. I'm not trying to make excuses for you LT's obviously mistaken choice of tactics, but since this was a training exercise, I'm guessing maybe he had an ulterior motive. I was so very impressed by the British officer corps when we trained with them, so I tend to wish to make sense of this LT's motives. Then again, I've been in the situation where I was a newly commissioned 2nd Lt. just out of the Basic School, expected to lead veterans, and not knowing what the fuck to do! IDK. Hopefully he was testing you, otherwise just pray he gets his shit together!

He did WHAT?!! I'm assuming this is a training exercise? Even so, the mission of any officer is Mission Accomplishment but also TROOP WELFARE! Those two go hand in hand. To order a subordinate to undertake a suicide mission is against every regulation I know, it's immoral, it destroys that officer's credibility, and hurts unit cohesion. Absolutely amazing. Did he order you to do something risky, or something that would actually nearly certainly kill you? Because the latter is absolutely an unlawful order. Your commander could be courtmartialed for that shit. I don't wish to sow discontent for you leadership; but if I understand your situation correctly, it absolutely infuriates me. Mmmmm, just be wise how you handle this. In training, he could be testing your loyalty. It's a mindfuck, but your commander must know your level of willingness to obey orders. Still, by doing so, I can only imagine he is demoralizing both yourself and your comrades. I'm sorry to hear that you are being treating in such a way. Fuck. Try not to stir waves or make any enemies over this, but definitely be weary of you LT. I don't know the full situation, but it reeks of incompetence to me. Good luck.

Good morning Private Black. It's easy to get sand in one's cooch while out there in the Sandbox. Be sure to air yourself out every once in awhile. And I agree with M4RISS: "Butterbars" (as they are unaffectionately referred to as in the Marines) are really still in training. They find themselves in the difficult position of leading Marines/Soldiers that are far more experienced. The good ones will know to leave many tactical decisions to their NCO's while the bad ones feel they must assert their authority by making every decision. Any good Lt. will learn to master the art of seeking the advice of his or her sergeants first, and then making that advice look like their own lol. It's true. Experience, not rank, is what matters over there. Listen to your NCO's... I always did.
